I love watching short films, and this weekend I went to a screening of different short films mostly made across Ibadan and Lagos and after each one, they would talk about them. The filmmakers described many of the works as trado-fiction: a mix of traditional and fiction, not necessarily historical or looking to the past, but existing at any point in time. There was a lot to unpack: the importance of emotions in the filmmaking process and whether that causes bias, the significance of language and dialect and getting tones exactly right. I ate all of it as food for thought, and I'm metaphorically still chewing.
