Welcome to Vol 204 of the Spread!
Hello and welcome back to the Spread, your weekly edit of all the best stories and global news about Africans shaping mainstream culture.
Last week I watched Goodbye Julia, Mohamed Kordofani's 2023 Sudanese drama, which made history as the first Sudanese film ever to be selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes. It was a wonderful film, complex, and full of parallels. The rest of the weekend was napping, working, and eating.
Speaking of eating: we're heading to London for an evening that asks a very important question: what if getting healthier didn't mean giving up the food you love? Join us for Unlearn The Diet with Gbemi Giwa, an evening exploring African food, women's health, and sustainable fat loss without leaving culture at the door because African food was never the problem. Expect honest conversations, practical advice, and plenty of room for questions. We've also created a dedicated 25% discount code for the Marmalade community; use Mar25 when checking out. See you there.
