Lukhanyo Mdingi Becomes the Winner of 2023 Amiri Prize

Cape Town-based designer Lukhanyo Mdingi has won the 2023 Amiri Prize, an international fashion award and incubator. Mdingi, who founded his fashion line in 2015, collaborated with local artisans to create intricate knitwear and dynamic silhouettes. He will receive a $100,000 grant and a year-long mentorship with Amiri fashion founder Mike Amiri. The prize supports emerging talents and promotes inclusivity in the fashion industry.

Kendrick Lamar and Global Citizen Launch 'Move Afrika' Touring Circuit with Rwanda Debut

Global Citizen and pgLang have launched "Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience," a touring circuit aimed at addressing global inequalities and fostering entrepreneurship in Africa. The inaugural event will be hosted in Rwanda, with plans to expand to five countries by 2025. Move Afrika also involves local artists, vendors, and skill development opportunities, promoting culture and creativity globally.

British-Nigerian artist Olaolu Slawn is partnering with eBay to auction two sneaker masterpieces, Corteiz x Nike Air Max 95 "Gutta Green" and Air Jordan 4 "Black Cat," inspired by London's local communities. The 100x100cm canvases will be auctioned, with proceeds donated to Path to Possibilities, a Nigerian organisation enhancing education through resource centres. Bidding started on November 2.

Teni drops "Malaika" and Reveals Second Album, "Tears of the Sun," Release

Nigerian Afropop artist Teni is set to release her sophomore album, Tears of the Sun, on November 17th. The album features 16 tracks, including the sonic masterpiece "Malaika," featuring Teni's melodic vocal range and a captivating soundscape of synth melodies and bassline. Produced by award-winning Blaisebeatz, the album is set to captivate audiences with its enchanting Afrobeats groove and mega hit "No Days Off," which has amassed nearly four million streams.

ART X Lagos Adds Film, Honours Ousemane Sembène in its Eighth Edition Celebration

ART X Lagos returns with its eighth edition, 'The Dialogue', featuring art exhibitions, a film program, and ART X Talks featuring speakers like Bruce Onobrakpeya and Ibrahim Mahama. ART X Live! combines music and art with musicians Tay Iwar and Azekel. The event was held from November 2-5, 2023, in Lagos, with the hope to build connections and celebrate African artistry through developmental platforms like Art Across Borders and The Access ART X Prize.

Spotify is launching capsule collections featuring artist merchandise, featuring items like hoodies, T-shirts, and bandanas featuring Mexican artist Peso Pluma's signature imagery. The platform plans to expand its artist-driven apparel offerings with upcoming collections featuring artists like Daft Punk, Tyler, the Creator, Tems, and Rosalía, allowing fans to connect with their favourite artists through exclusive merchandise.
