Welcome to Vol 192 of the Spread!

Hello and welcome back to the Spread, your weekly edit of all the best stories and global news about Africans shaping mainstream culture.

I spent most of Friday afternoon ignoring my task list completely to finish the book I recommended last week. Yes, I do read what I recommend. I went through the whole emotional spectrum: annoyed, then angry, then genuinely shocked, then relieved and happy. But finally, a book with a happy ending. They really don't make them like that anymore.

Meanwhile, the internet has been a lot this week. There's the anti-intellectual discourse, but if I share my opinions, we'd be here for hours. There's also the ongoing debate about visualisers versus music videos; all I'll say is that we're getting fun visuals now and then and good songs, and honestly, that's enough for me. A lot has dropped this weekend, and I'm weaving my way through it all. But the video that’s been living in my head rent-free? This video of Asake dancing, I’m using it as practice for the ember months. If you know, you know.

On to the stories: it's a big week for Nigerian cinema, African football, and Paris. Let's get into it.
