Welcome to Vol 182 of the Spread!
Hello and welcome back to the Spread, your weekly edit of all the best stories and global news about Africans shaping mainstream culture.
How was your weekend? Did you get some well-deserved rest? We hope so. You deserve it.
Now, some good news to start off your week with; while the rest of the world was busy doing whatever the rest of the world does, Africa and her children have once again reminded everyone who built the foundation this whole music industry is standing on.
Point being that Fela Kuti and Sade Adu are finally getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! If you ask me, it took them long enough; Fela alone has more cultural impact in one saxophone note than most entire discographies. And Sade? Baby, Sade is the reason people learned what "smooth" means.
All in all, it was a good week for African culture, and I, for one, am quite proud to be one.
Mary x,
Now on to the real peel 👇
